RB Leipzig welcomed Bayern Munich to the Red Bull Arena for the first match since the return of the Bundesliga.
Leipzig started off the match on top. They won all their duels and looked to test the traveling defense nice and early. Bayern soon settled and began to recycle the ball with more intensity.
Serge Gnabry was the creator of the first chance of the night. He worked the ball onto his left foot and powered a shot towards Leipzig’s net. Gvardiol’s attempted block redirected the ball and it rattled the post.
Yann Sommer had his first test as a Bayern Munich player in the 21st minute. Forsberg received a cross on the edge of the 18 yard box and took a snap-shot but it was easily saved by the Swiss goalkeeper.
Leon Goretzka thought he opened the scoring after a well worked set piece from Bayern 30 minutes into the game, but it was soon ruled out for a foul by De Ligt.

A thunderous attack by Bayern Munich ended with a Choupo-Moting goal. Sane threaded a ball through to Gnabry on the left wing. He then saw his striker making the run and calling for the ball in the box. The Cameroonian received an inch perfect cross and converted to open the scoring and score his seventh Bundesliga goal of the season.
Bayern went into the locker room leading and satisfied with their performance so far. Leipzig knew that they needed improvements. Especially with their decision making in the final third.
RB Leipzig equalized six minutes after the second half commenced. Andre Silva out-muscled Kimmich in the box, whipped in a cross which was eventually converted by Halstenberg.
Minutes later, Olmo shot from distance but his shot was easily gathered by Sommer.
The next bit of action came in the 66th minute and it was a controversial one. Dominik Szoboszlai took a clever touch to beat Upamecano, who fouled the attacker and only received a yellow card despite being the “last man”.
Laimer had a chance to keep all three points at the Red Bull Arena one minute into extra time but he failed to hit the target.
Muller responded with a chance from a similar angle but like Laimer, his shot failed to hit the target.
The match ended 1-1 and this draw left both teams in the same position as before, third and first respectively. It was an entertaining match between two exciting teams.
