The Minnesota Vikings are bulking up and improving their team at multiple positions. They have already received Roquan Smith from the Bears and are now improving at the Tight End position with the addition of T.J. Hockenson.
Minnesota sends a 2023 second-round pick and 2024 third-round pick to Detroit for Hockenson, a 2023 fourth-round pick, and a 2024 conditional fourth-round pick.
The No. 8 overall pick in 2019 out of Iowa, Hockenson entered the NFL boasting as an athletic pass-catcher with blocking skills. In Detroit, the tight end has been solid but hasn’t blown the doors off.
T.J. Hockenson has generated 2,068 yards and 15 touchdowns in 47 games. The Lions planned to get him more involved in the offense with Ben Johnson, former TE’s coach taking over as the play-caller. There were some flashes including an eight-catch, 179-yard, two-TD day in Week 4 against Seattle, it’s been another up-and-down campaign for Hockenson. The 25-year-old TE has earned 395 yards and three TDs in seven contests. He is currently in the fourth year of his rookie contract, with the Lions already picking up his option for next season.
Hockenson will move to Minnesota as part of Kevin O’Connell‘s offense and he should pair well with Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen. With three dynamic playmakers who can receive the ball, the Vikings offense should be more explosive.
