Shohei Ohtani may be gone by the end of this season. However, there is a sense of urgency amongst the other stars on the roster.
“This is the year, for sure,” Trout told The Post on Monday. “This has got to be the year, It’s got to be. Especially if we want to keep Shohei [Ohtani],” Trout said. “We win and get to the playoffs, he’d think about it a little bit more.”
The Angels have some new looks heading into the 2023 season. Logan O’Hoppe will most likely take over as the starting catcher. Brandon Drury will slot in as the starting second baseman. The Angels also added power-hitting outfielder Hunter Renfroe who projects to be the starting right fielder.
The Starting rotation and bullpen look almost identical except for the swap of Tyler Anderson for Noah Syndergaard. The Angels have had some big-name players on their rosters over the years, but have failed to make the playoffs since 2014. They also haven’t recorded a record above .500 since 2015. So things have to turn around all in one season if the Angels want even a slim chance of keeping Ohtani.
