Luke Willson has not had the most illustrious career in the history of tight ends, but he always finds his way back onto the Seattle Seahawks roster. Just a day before making this announcement Luke resigned with the Seahawks. Calling it a career after 9 years.
In the statement, Willson revealed that he battled a severe pericardial effusion (extra fluid around the heart) this offseason which “changed my perspective on a lot of things with regards to my life. After reflecting on everything yesterday and being in the building, I have decided that it’s time for me to begin with the next chapter of my life.”
Football is really all I know,” Willson said. “It’s all I’ve done for the last two decades. I’ll be honest, I have no idea what’s next at the moment … but whatever it is, you can be sure that I will bring a lot of energy to it.”
Willson has been playing and practicing in the Seattle area since the end of last season. But he signed a contract for his fourth and final stint with the Seattle Seahawks. He was drafted by the Seahawks in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL Draft.
It was not because of the Seahawks though that Luke retired:
Over the course of nine years, Willson has had 111 receptions for 1307 yards and 11 Touchdowns. Though Luke Willson did have some success on the field, he was an even better character, with a witty personality. He started this called Techno Thursday years back. And it’s kind of always stuck.

Whats Next For Luke Willson?
It really all depends on what he sees as a potential career now, but should he decide to stick around the game. He could become an assistant coach or a broadcaster.
