The New York Yankees have been out to get better this offseason. One of their biggest needs is starting pitching and while they await to see where Blake Snell signs. The Yankees are adding a back-end rotation guy in Marcus Stroman according to Jon Heyman.

Marcus Stroman actually broke the development of his contract on his own Instagram. With an old picture of Stroman wearing a Yankees jacket and another with Stroman’s jersey and hat edited to reflect he’s a Yankee.

“I’m a New York Yankee,” he wrote in his Instagram Story.

Stroman is coming off an All-Star caliber season in which he posted a 10-9 record with a 3.95 ERA across 136.2 frames. Over the course of those innings, he struck out 119 batters. Though, not his best season, in 2023 Stroman showed that he can at least put together a quality season. He tailed off in the second half a bit.

Acquiring Juan Soto in a trade with the Padres and missing out on the sweepstakes of Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the Yankees were left with a hole in their rotation. The Yankees were interested in both free agents: Snell and Jordan Montgomery. As well as Dylan Cease on the trade market. Now, it appears the Yankees have opted to go in a cheaper route and sign Marcus Stroman to a two-year, $37 million deal. A deal that also includes a vesting option.

Stroman will likely slot in as the No. 5 starter in New York behind Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon, Nestor Cortes and Clarke Schmidt.

They could still acquire one of the options on the market, but adding Stroman at least filled the gap.
