The Mariners are determined to get better at the trade deadline. Coming into the weekend they were looking to add at least two hitters and a bullpen arm. Within the last 24 hours, the Mariners front office has secured one bat and now they’ve added Yimi Garcia according to Jeff Passan.

Jonatan Clase has struggled after making his MLB Debut this season. Through 19 games at the Major League level, Clase hit .195/.233/.220 with a double, three RBIs and three stolen bases. According to many scouts, his speed will be his calling card. For the most part, he has tore it up at the Triple-A level this season.

The full trade details include the Mariners also giving up 22-year-old catcher Jacob Sharp.

In return for their No. 10 prospect, the Mariners are getting, Yimi Garcia, one of the best relievers on the market at the 2024 Trade Deadline. The Mariners bullpen has had some rocky moments this season. Especially with Santos on the IL for the better half of the year. A hefty price for the Mariners if Garcia ends up only being a half-season rental. Regardless, Servais will likely slot him into the back end of the pen with Gregory Santos and Andres Munoz. Garcia has been a force this year, sporting a career-high 96.7 mph average fastball en route to a mammoth 36.5% strikeout rate.

The right-handed reliever has a 2.70 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 42 strikeouts in 30 innings this season, which marks a drastic improvement over last year’s 4.09 ERA in 66 innings.

The Mariners have been crowded in the outfield, which has caused Clase not to get the consistent playing time he needs. With the Blue Jays, he should have more of a chance to show what he can do. The 22-year-old Sharp is a catcher who can also play outfield.
