Sources, including Fabrizio Romano, have reported that Chelsea has reached an agreement with Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentinian manager will come to Stamford Bridge next season starting in June, bringing with him his team. Frank Lampard will remain the caretaker until the end of the season.
The former Tottenham gaffer will become Chelsea’s fifth coach under Todd Boehly’s realm. The Blues had already sacked Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter earlier in the season and had undergone two caretakers in Bruno Saltor and Frank Lampard. There were rumors that former Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann or Spain national team coach Jose Enrique or even recently sacked Antonio Conte would get the job vacancy. But in the end, only Pochettino accepted the offer.
Can Mauricio Pochettino turn Chelsea around?
Chelsea is experiencing the worst season since Roman Abramovich’s takeover. Well, since Todd Boehly’s as well. Since their best possible finish in the Premier League is tenth, The Blues will surely miss out on European football next season. There were plenty of flashy signings, some even costing them around a hundred million. The number one duty for Mauricio Pochettino is to put together a winning squad out of these talents, not just groups of individuals.
The Argentinian coach has had his fair share of success at London rival Tottenham, leading Spurs to a Champions League Finals appearance. His attacking-minded 4-2-3-1 was very high-motor and fluid. He loves to build up from the back using his center-backs and goalkeepers, which he will have the right tools for with Kepa and Thiago Silva at his expense. Plus, Poch is also known for switching his formation to adapt to the opponent’s playstyle, generally to a three CBs lineup which Chelsea is familiar with. But utmost, Chelsea fans would hope he could transform the one-dimensional and inefficient attacks and elevate the levels of Mudryk, Madueke, and even Havertz, just like how he did with Son Heung-min and Dele Alli.
Let’s see how the bond between Chelsea and Pochettino pan out next season.
