The LSU Lady Tigers are heading to their first Sweet Sixteen in nine years after a 66-42 victory over Michigan. The 3-seed finished the regular season with a program-best 30-2 record. Much of this success is due to standout transfer Forward, “Bayou Barbie” Angel Reese.

Reese transferred in from Maryland after notching a Third-Team All-American appearance last year, and she brings her Baltimore mentality to every game she plays.

“I have that dog mentality and I always want to go out there and win,” Reese said. “So whoever’s in front of me, I’m going to go get it, and I’m going to talk trash to you the whole entire game, and that’s that.”

And she absolutely backs it up on the court.

Angel Reese’s Electric Junior Season

She’s top five in the nation in points per game at 23.7 and second in rebounds at an astounding 15.5. Reese was named an AP First-Team All-American, alongside South Carolina’s Aliyah Boston, Iowa’s Caitlin Clark, Villanova’s Maddy Siegrist, and Indiana’s Mackenzie Holmes.

Even though the Tigers finished the season with only two losses, to undefeated South Carolina and SEC runner-ups Tennessee, they were ranked as a 3-seed in their region. Reese didn’t take the disrespect lightly as she’s absolutely been lighting up the tournament through the first two rounds.

In their Round of 64 matchup against Hawaii, Reese put up 34 points and 15 rebounds, with three steals and three blocks. She followed that performance up with 25 points and 24 rebounds with three steals and six blocks.

“She has lived up to her hype on this floor,” LSU head coach Kim Mulkey said. “She has helped up jumpstart and wake up this program.”

LSU’s toughest tournament matchup is coming up Friday as they face off against 2-seeded Utah in the Sweet Sixteen, who escaped 10-seeded Princeton with a seven-point victory on Sunday.
