After Don Mattingly announced he would not return to the Miami Marlins for the 2023 season, fans have been waiting for who the organization would hire. Today the Marlins announce Skip Schumaker as the manager moving forward.
Who Is Skip Schumaker?
Schumaker most recent job was as a bench coach for the St. Louis Cardinals, who just had a magical year themselves.
As a manager he spent some time in the 2020 and 2021 with the San Diego Padres as the associate manager, gaining experience beyond just coaching in the MLB.
As a player, Skip spent 11 seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals. Winning not one but two championship rings with the franchise, 2006 and 2011.
He also spent time with the Los Angles Dodgers and Cincinnati Reds before retiring from playing and working his way up in the coaching ranks.
The Future is Bright for Both…
The future is bright for Skip Schumaker and the Miami Marlins. This new marriage between the two fits in many ways, the biggest stand out for me is both being young.
The youth on the Marlins roster and the 42 year old Schumaker can grow into something special, barring everything goes right and Skip gets a long enough chance to implement his ways.
Only time will tell, yet, Marlins fans should be optimistic about the next decade of baseball in Miami.
