Mike Evans is suspended for week three of the NFL season for the altercation he got in this past Sunday. During the scuffle, Mike Evans ran over to Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore and shoved him to the ground. He plans to fight and appeal the suspension.

Not his First Time

It’s not Evans’s first fight with Lattimore, which many figure to have been a contributing factor in the league decision. In fact, it’s not even the first time Mike Evans was suspended for fighting with Lattimore either.

This time around, Lattimore was getting into it with Buccaneers halfback Leonard Fournette. Tom Brady appeared to take exception to whatever Lattimore was saying. He joined in, which triggered Evans to then come over. What many Buccaneers fans are upset with is that Lattimore avoided suspension. In the video, you can see Lattimore hit Fournette before Evans comes in. Others point out that Fournette appeared to push Lattimore first prompting the reaction from Lattimore and that Evans then escalated it too far.

The Appeal

Another wrinkle to add into the story is just who exactly was the head of the committee that issued the suspension. Jon Runyan is the current Vice President of Policy and Rules administration of the NFL and foresees all of the cases like these, including this one. His son, Jon Runyan Jr, plays for the Green Bay Packers who are set to play the Buccaneers are scheduled to face the Packers next week. It doesn’t end there. Derrick Brooks is handling the appeal case. Brooks is a former Buccaneer himself and may have to excuse himself due to a conflict of interest, something Jon Runyan Sr. did not have to do.

The appeal will come later this week, as will the final decision on the suspension.
