On Saturday night, internet sensation Mikey Williams announced his commitment to the University of Memphis basketball program.

While windmilling and showing off insane skills, Williams had almost two million Instagram followers by the end of his first year at San Ysidro High School. Eventually, Williams gained more followers, including Drake, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant. When Williams posted his announcement via Instagram, he had around 3.5 million followers. Williams has had a huge social media following since he was a young teen.

College basketball fans have been awaiting the decision as Williams was unsure if he was even going to play college basketball. Williams also expressed interest in the NBA G League, and the professional collegiate league.

When Williams committed, the internet blew up as it did when Williams high school clips were shown.

The 6’2 guard is listed as a five-star and is ranked 30th overall in the class of 2023.

Williams chose Memphis over Kansas, Alabama State, Arizona State, and Arkansas.

Memphis head coach Penny Hardaway was able to bring in Mikey Williams from the 2023 class, but he was not done there. Moments after Williams announced his decision, his new San Ysidro team, JJ Taylor, followed behind him, announcing his decision to play under Hardaway as well.

The 6′ 8 SF is listed as a four-star and ranked 63rd in the 2023 class.

Taylor decided to take his talents to Memphis over schools such as Kentucky, Arkansas, DePaul, and Duke.

Hardaway took a massive step for the Tigers, especially after former five-star recruit Emoni Bates, left Memphis to play at Eastern Michigan.

With the two taking this massive step in their careers, the Tigers move from number 44 in the 2023 recruiting class to number 8.
