The Milwaukee Brewers have boasted some of the best starting pitching in all of baseball over the past decade. They continue to find guys who can rack up strikeout totals like no other team in baseball. Especially over the past several years with starters who have dominated the league in Corbin Burnes, Brandon Woodruff and Freddy Peralta just to name a few.
Even with all of the years of spectacular starting pitching and league leading strikeout numbers it took until 2022 to accomplish a very impressive feat.
Double Digits
For the first time in franchise history, three straight Brewers starters have recorded double digit strikeouts in a game.
On April 30 against the Chicago Cubs, Eric Lauer dominated once again striking out 11 batters over seven innings. The following game against the Cubs, Corbin Burnes was masterful as usual striking out 10 over seven innings. Following an off day, the struggling Cincinnati Reds came into town where they were welcomed by Brandon Woodruff who tied a career best with 12 strikeouts over 5.2 innings.
This is a team that has been top-10 in all of baseball in strikeouts for the last four years. Most recently, last season they finished with the most of any team in baseball at over 1,600. With a pitching staff that strikeouts out as many batters as the Brewers do it is hard to believe it took until now for them to set this record. It must also be noted, all of these performances were in front of the home town fans.
The Brew Crew already has six double digit strikeout performances under their belt only 24 games into the season. With the way their starting rotation is pitching it is going to be a long year for the opposition. This may not be the first time they accomplish a feat like this with 138 games remaining.
