The 91st Major League Baseball MLB All-Star Game is tonight at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado. As the American League takes on the National League. This year’s all-star game, initially scheduled for Atlanta, was moved out of Georgia after Georgia Senate Bill 202 passed earlier this year. However, in April, it was announced that Denver would host the All-Star Game, making it the second time the city hosts the game.

Previewing the National League Roster

As is tradition with the All-Star Game, the managers from the last World Series will face off. So, tonight the National League manager is Dave Roberts of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Joining Roberts and the rest of the Dodgers coaching staff is Rockies manager Bud Black and Reggie Smith will be on the staff.

One of the exciting components of the National League Roster is San Diego Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. Tatis Jr. is the Padres biggest star coming out of the long rebuild the franchise has completed. However, the biggest benefit is Tatis breaks the mold of the traditional shortstop in the modern game. The traditional shortstop is normally a speed guy with superior fielding abilities. But, Tatis adds power to the posistion and with that he is changing the shortstop posistion.

Another key storyline to watch is Nolan Arenado of the St. Louis Cardinals. Arenado played seven seasons with the Rockies before being traded to St. Louis this past offseason. So the All-Star Game will give the fans of Denver to thank Arenado for his years of service to the Rockies franchise.

However, with all the positives on the National League Roster, there is one unfortunate regarding the pitching staff. As on Wednesday New York Mets star pitcher Jacob deGrom announced he would not play in the All-Star Game. De Grom’s absence from the all-star game is unfortunate as heading into the break he is having carrer year. De Grom leads the major leagues in ERA at 1.08 and is second to Gerrit Cole of the New York Yankees.

Also in addition the National League will be without Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. suffered a season ending ACL injury. It will be interesting to see how the NL fills Acuña’s spot in the line up.

Previewing the American League Roster

Tampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash will manage the American League team. Joining Cash and the rest of the Rays coaching staff is Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona.

The American League roster has the biggest star in the game with Shohei Ohtani. Ohtani is the only active player who pitches and hits on a daily basis. Consequently, Ohtani is a key component to the Angels franchise’s future as they bring a championship to Anaheim. Ohtani, who is in his fourth season with the Angels, now holds the record for the most home runs by a Japanese player, which he broke this past Wednesday.

Starting Pitching Matchup For The MLB All-Star Game

The American League starting pitcher is the Los Angeles Angels Shohei Ohtani. At the end of the first half, Ohtani has a record of 4-1, having pitched 67 innings, a 3.41 Era, and 87 Strikeouts. His opponent is Washington Nationals ace Max Scherzer. Heading into tonight’s game, he has a record of 7-4, pitched 98 innings, with an ERA of 2.66 and 134 strikeouts.

The 91st MLB All-Star Game begins tonight at 8:00 on Fox.
