The Seattle Mariners will host the 2023 MLB All-Star game and all related festivities. On Wednesday, the managers for the MLB Futures game were announced to be two of the most prominent members of Mariners’ history.
Harold Reynolds, a current MLB Network analyst who spent parts of 10 seasons as the Mariners’ second baseman, will manage the AL Futures Game squad. Across the way, Raul Ibañez, a highly placed executive with MLB who had three stints as a power hitter in the Seattle lineup, will manage the NL team.
As well, each team’s coaching staff will be stacked with franchise legends. Here’s a look, via MLB.com:
Team Reynolds (AL) staff: Jay Buhner, Alvin Davis, Jamie Moyer, Dave Valle
Team Ibañez (NL) staff: Adrián Beltré, Mike Cameron, Félix Hernández, Dan Otero, Joel Piñeiro, Jeremy Reed, Dan Wilson, Randy Winn
The seven-inning futures game is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 8. With the Pacific Northwest getting a glimpse getting a fresh look at the top prospects and top talent in all of baseball. The rosters used to be determined by U.S. and International. Four years ago, however, the format was revised so that teams are organized based on league affiliation of the parent organization.
Though, both MLB Futures managers in 2023 know a lot about the game, only Ibanez has been listed as a finalist for previous coaching jobs.
The Game rosters have yet to be announced. That will come in the next few weeks.
