Sanu’s Upside Is His Connection With McDaniel

Mohamed Sanu signed with the Miami Dolphins yesterday. He previously played for five other teams. Sanu’s best seasons were with the Cincinnati Bengals and Atlanta Falcons. Last season he played just eight games with the San Francisco 49ers, ending the year on injured reserve.

Sanu’s connection with Head Coach Mike McDaniel is the best reason for Miami to sign him. McDaniel was offensive and running game coordinator for the 49ers. Sanu can help other wide outs learn the routes and blocking schemes of McDaniel’s offense. That’s the best reason for the team to sign him.

Sanu’s Place Among Miami’s Receivers

Mohamed Sanu has had a solid career with 402 receptions and 27 touchdowns for five different teams

Miami’s starting receivers appear set already for the season. Tyreke Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Cedrick Wilson, and this year’s fourth round pick Erik Ezukanma all will make the team. Sanu probably won’t be on the field more than the 240 snaps he played last year. Miami carried seven receivers last year and Sanu will fight with four or five others for a spot on the 53 man roster.

Sanu will be going into his tenth season this year. His best season came five years ago with Atlanta. No knock against him but at most he’s a depth piece for Miami. Perhaps the team is trying to push Lynn Bowden and Preston Williams, both of whom have had chances to be a productive part of the receiver corps. That may not be what Sanu wants but it could be exactly what Bowden, Williams, and the team needs.
