Kyle Busch proves he made the correct decision during NASCAR free agency as he returns to Victory Lane in just his second start at Richard Childress Racing. The Las Vegas native piloted the number 8 car to a win in the final race at Auto Club Speedway under its current configuration. He also passed Richard Petty for most consecutive season with a win.
BUSCH CONTINUES WINNING WAYS
Kyle “Rowdy” Busch carved out a Hall of Fame career at Joe Gibbs Racing. He won two championships and more than 50 races while driving the number 18 car. But when his primary sponsor, M&Ms announced they wouldn’t return to NASCAR, it left both Busch and Gibbs in a tough situation. That resulted in Busch trying his hand on a new team and he’s already out to a great start.
He was positioned to win the Daytona 500 until a late race caution led to him being caught in a crash. It was a different story at Auto Club as the green stayed out for a long late race run allowing Busch to chase down Michael McDowell and coast to victory. Busch has now driven for three teams: Rick Hendrick Racing, Joe Gibbs Racing and Richard Childress Racing. He’s won at Auto Club Speedway for all three teams.
It was the 61st career win for Busch, the most among active drivers. Rowdy also recorded a win for the 19th consecutive season moving him past Richard Petty for most seasons with a win. Next week, NASCAR heads to Busch’s home track of Las Vegas.
NASCAR HISTORY FOR HARVICK
Kevin Harvick also making history on Sunday. He started his 750th consecutive race. Harvick joins Jeff Gordon (797) and Ricky Rudd (788) as the only three men in NASCAR history to make 750 consecutive starts. Harvick recorded a Top 5 finish as well, ensuring he will be a championship threat in his final season.

NASCAR XFINITY RECAP
Speaking of Joe Gibbs, one of his drivers found Victory Lane in the Xfinity race Sunday night. John Hunter Nemechek scooted to victory on the Southern California track. It’s his first full season in Xfinity as he replaced Ty Gibbs in the series when Gibbs moved up to Cup to replace Kyle Busch at JGR. The Xfinity race was supposed to be held Saturday but was delayed due to snow. Like the Cup series, the Xfinity series heads to Las Vegas next weekend.
