Nathan MacKinnon Out For Four Weeks

Nathan MacKinnon is the Colorado Avalanche’s leader in points and assists. In Monday’s loss against the Philadelphia Flyers MacKinnon left in the middle of the first period. MacKinnon played five shifts before leaving the game and had an assist on Alex Newhook‘s goal that gave Colorado a 1-0 lead. It was his 26th assist of the season which tied Connor McDavid for the NHL lead.

Nathan MacKinnon Career

So far this season, MacKinnon leads Colorado with eight goals and 26 assists for a total of 34 points in 23 games.MacKinnon has a +/- of 7. He had his best season points-wise in the 2018-19 season where he had 41 goals, and 58 assists with a total of 99 points. Last season, when the Avalanche won the Stanley Cup MacKinnon had 32 goals, 56 assists, and 88 points.

Colorado Avalanche is Without Many Players

The Colorado Avalanche has many players on the injured list. Arituri Lehkonen and Jean-Luc Foudy are day-to-day. Along with MacKinnon, Valeri Nichushkin, Evan Rodrigues, Shane Bowers, Josh Manson, Bowen Byram, and Kurtis MacDermid are all out due to injuries. Gabriel Landeskog and Darren Helm have yet to play this season. The Avalanche currently ranks fourth in the Central Division.

Avalanche’s Coach Speaking About Playing Without MacKinnon

“[He’s] a guy that plays 25 (minutes) a night and in every situation, so you have to juggle everything,” coach Jared Bednar said after Monday’s game. “Do the best you can. You’ve just got to keep grinding and find guys that contribute. … Guys are going to have to step up. It’s going to be a challenge. It’s been a challenge for us and seems to be getting worse at this point.” With so many guys out they recalled forwards Sampo Ranta, Ben Meyers, Callahan Burke, and one defenseman Andreas Englund. The Avalanche host the Boston Bruins tonight.
