Brandon Miller, considered one of the top prospects in the upcoming NBA draft, has reportedly fallen out of shape. Not only is his shape a worry, but his interviews with teams have reportedly left something to be desired.
Miller is the 2023 SEC Player of the Year and second team All-American. Throughout the season, Miller looked like the top prospect and earned Alabama the top seed in the NCAA tournament.
At 6-foot-9, Miller has great size to go along with guard-like skills. He is a can’t-miss prospect on paper, but his latest reports of being out of shape and poor interviews with teams are cause for concern.
Before, it seemed like Miller was a lock at number two in the draft, with Victor Wembanyama being a shoe-in at number one.
The Hornets have Lamelo Ball and might not need another guard, making the former Alabama star the perfect fit for their roster. However, his recent reports of being out of shape and not impressing teams in interviews could hurt his draft stock.
What This Means For the NBA Draft Stock of Brandon Miller
Jonathan Givony of ESPN on Zach Lowe’s The Lowe Post podcast reported that Miller is out of shape and his interviews with teams have not gone as well as expected.
“Every team is looking for this type of player,” said ESPN’s Jonathan Givony on Zach Lowe’s podcast. “Six-nine, big guard, can handle the ball. Pass out of pick and roll. Make shots off the dribble. Defend multiple positions. Rebound. That’s what people are looking for.
“At the same time, he’s not in great shape right now. So I don’t know how great his workout is going to be.
“His interviews have not been great, I’ve been told. Both publicly and privately with NBA teams.
“I would put it 60 percent Brandon Miller at two, 40 percent Scoot Henderson. I do think they’re going to have trade conversations too. They would be out of their minds honestly. The best thing in the world that could have happened for them is getting the No. 2 pick.”
Compiled with the legal troubles that Miller has experienced earlier this year, teams might start to look for safer options in the draft. When asked about the incident, Miller stated: “The message I’ve presented to them is it’s all a lesson learned. You always have to be aware of your surroundings and what you’re surrounded by. I feel like that night could’ve changed my career in less that a heartbeat.”
Despite the rumors, this is a good statement from the potential top three players in the upcoming draft. The upside of Brandon Miller is still undeniable, as he has the potential to become a versatile and talented player in the NBA.
