Saturday night in Queens, New York one of the best New York Mets seasons comes down to this. Game 2 of the wild card series against the Padres is a win or go home game for the Mets. Jacob deGrom will take the bump and the pressure from the entire city.
What happened in Game 1?
Max Scherzer started for the Mets as Yu Darvish started for the Padres. It did not take long for San Diego to get on the board and take a commanding lead. Going up 2-0 in the first inning on a Josh Bell two run home run with two outs.

Trent Grisham hit a solo home run in the second inning making the game 3-0 and prompting announcers to ask if something is wrong with Max Scherzer. Who gave up four home runs in total on Friday night (Bell, Grisham, Profar, Machado). He finished the game after pitching 4.2 innings, giving up 7 runs on 7 hits and striking out 4.

Eduardo Escobar hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning as the lone Mets run to score. By then the damage was already done. The Padres had a commanding 7-1 lead, which would stand as the final score in Game 1.
A Look Forward to Game 2:
Blake Snell will take the mound for the Padres. Snell this season against the Mets has pitched two games, nine innings, going 1-1 giving up 5 runs and recording 9 strikeouts.
Jacob deGrom will take the challenge of keeping the Mets season alive tonight. On the season he only pitched 64.1 innings due to injury. In those 64 innings he threw 104 strikeouts in 11 games recording a record of 5-4.
An Amazing Season in the Queens…
Comes down to this one game, win or go home. The New York Mets went 101-61 in Buck Showalter‘s first season as manager. The expectations since June have been World Series or bust.
The 101 wins are the third most in franchise history. A number of players had stand out seasons playing above their so-called potential. For instance, Jeff McNeil won the NL batting title with a 3.26 average on the season. While the entire outfield raised their game tremendously; Marte, Nimmo, and Canha became fan favorites.
This Mets team is fun to watch, they played the game with child like joy and energy. Despite the 101 wins, the Mets lost the division that they lead for 98% of the season. Forcing them to play in this wild card series while the Atlanta Braves get to watch and wait.
