With the NFL already being in week 15, the season is almost over. Along with that, there are only a few playoff sports left. With that in mind, there are a few teams that are looking to make that late push to make it into the playoff sweepstakes. Here are some of the games and teams that you should watch for, as their season may come to an end on Sunday.
Jaguars vs Jets
This game is the Thursday game and will kick off Week 15 of the NFL. Both of these teams need this win badly. The Jags are coming in hot and playing really well. Last week, they made a really impressive comeback to beat the Cowboys. For the Jags, a win means that they will be half a game back from the Titans in the division, and may even pass them if the Titans lose. The Jags and Trevor Lawrence have caught fire late, and are looking to make some magic happen to end the season. If the Jags continue to win, there is a chance that the Jags-Titans game week 17 will be for the playoffs. Along with that, Ryan Tannehill is rumored to miss the rest of the season with his ankle injuries. This is a huge game for the Jaguars.
For the Jets, they are coming in off a brutal loss to the Lions. The Jets played well for most of the game and really only two to four plays that killed them that game. Zach Wilson is set to start again in place of the injured Mike White, who is still dealing with the ribs injury. It is clear that this Jets team is divided behind Wilson so this end of season stretch will be interesting to watch as he continues to start. The Jets need this win badly to stay in a hopeful chance for the playoffs. After starting 6-3, the Jets find themselves at 7-7. If the Jets lose here, their playoff hopes are about gone.
Bengals vs Patriots
The only reason this game is really here is because of the Bengals. A huge comeback win last week against the Bucs and a Ravens loss helped give the Bengals the division lead. If the Bengals win this game, they should control their destiny. They play the Ravens in the final week of the regular season. That game could end up being for the division. Cincinnati is also starting to hit its stride, as they have become more dominant as the season has gone on. With some key injuries on the team still, Joe Burrow will continue to have to ball to get past this talented Patriots team. The Pats are not completely dead just yet, so the Bengals will need to take this game seriously to help clinch the division.
Lions vs Panthers
The Lions just might be the hottest team in the NFL right now. Winning 6 of their last seven after starting 1-6, the whole vibe around Detroit has seemed to change. Jared Goff has been playing really good this year, and down the stretch has been doing just enough to win the big games. The defense has basically had a whole turnaround too. After some firings on the defensive side, the guys responded and started to ball out. This team has the potential to enter their way into the playoffs if they continue to win. This game in week 15 will go a long way for that, and the Lions can almost taste the postseason. This is the first step in the many left for the LIons to get in.
For the Panthers, they still somehow have a shot to win the division. Coming in at 5-9, they sit only one game behind the 6-8 Buccaneers. With that in mind, this team will still need a lot to go right. With a bit of a tougher schedule, Sam Darnold will have to lead this offense a bit more effectively than he did against the Steelers. The defense is playing alright, but they still can improve some. While this year may have been a bit rough for the Panthers, there still is a way for them to get in, and it starts with a win Sunday.
Packers vs Dolphins
For a Christmas Day gift for the NFL week 15 slate, the NFL gave us this game early. This just may be the game of the day.. While it may seem as not too competitive due to the records, this game means a lot to both of these teams. For the Packers, they have to win out and have some teams lose to have any hope of making the playoffs. This is way more doable than it sounds, but the hardest part will be the Packers winning out. Aaron Rodgers has started to play a bit better recently. Along with that, the run game is really emerging with the two headed monster in the backfield. For the Packers, it all comes down to the defense. If the defense can contain Tua Tagovailoa and this fast offense, then there’s a chance the green and gold can live to fight another week.
For the Dolphins, they are in a similar boat. With a semi tough ending schedule ahead, they would like to win to just clinch a playoff berth. The Dolphins are at the bottom of the wildcard, and are really close to missing the playoffs. Only having a one game lead, this team would like to win two of the last three to for sure get in. With all of the talent on this roster, they can be a threat to anyone in the playoffs. This should be a fun game to kick off the three Christmas Day games for the NFL in week 15.
