Sunday’s edition of NHL rumors include what is happening with the Chicago Blackhawks, San Jose Sharks, and Arizona Coyotes.
Chicago Blackhawks – Marc-Andre Fleury
Rumor: Per Mario Tirabassi – bleachernation.com. With the recent trade of Malcolm Subban, the Chicago Blackhawks are uncertain about goalie Marc-Andre Fleury‘s future in the Windy City.
Analysis: According to ESPN’s Emily Kaplan, the Blackhawks are undecided about the future of goaltender Marc-André Fleury. On “The Point,” Kaplan said the Blackhawks would listen to trade proposals for the 2021 Vezina Winner, but there are many factors to moving Fleury.
Fleury, who just turned 37 is in the final year of his $7 million deal and has a 10-team no-trade clause in his contract. It was a chore to even get Fleury to go to Chicago. It meant disrupting his family to move there. He thought he was set in Vegas. Then, previous general manager, Stan Bowman stated he wouldn’t be trading Fleury.
New general manager Kyle Davidson will have his hands full attempting to move Fleury, who has had a very uncharacteristic slow start this season. He has recovered nicely of late. He carries a 6-9-1 record with a 2.90 goals-against-average and a .913 save percentage.
It seems logical that if the Hawks intend to move Fleury, doing it sooner rather than later would be ideal. Stay with CSM to know the latest NHL rumors.
San Jose Sharks – Evander Kane
Rumor: Per Stanley Sweeney – nhltraderumors.me. With news that the San Jose Sharks are willing to retain half of Evander Kane‘s salary, teams are lining up to see if a deal can be made. A third team may need to get involved to help finance a deal.
Analysis: With a potential salary cap hit of only $1.75 million if a third team gets involved, adding a talent like Kane is a very attractive venture. Sure, he has off-ice issues, but he can still score. Teams fighting for a Cup appearance may take that chance.
As Emily Kaplan stated, a team like the Carolina Hurricanes, would really like to add his scoring threat to their roster. Kane has 264 goals and 242 assists in 769 career NHL games. Who wouldn’t want to have that? Evander Kane will land somewhere. And to find out where be sure to stay right here with CSM for all the NHL rumors.
Arizona Coyotes – For Sale Again?
Rumor: Per – Eric Macramalla – Forbes.com. Report: The Arizona Coyotes are for sale and may move to Houston.
Analysis: While this has been denied vehemently by the Coyotes management, this is not the first time that Forbes has spread rumors that the team was leaving. Back in 2013, the same publication stated that the team was moving to Seattle.
While Macramalla’s managing editor, Mike Ozanian didn’t state his source, just that it is a ‘banking guy’, this is getting really old for the team.
It’s very doubtful that Alex Meruelo who is worth $14 billion would try to build a new arena in Tempe just to sell or move the team to Houston. He also would be out the reported $2 billion investment he intends to help finance the venture. Meruelo also would be out all the sports betting revenue he could collect. He will have a licensed sports betting business going on in Arizona.
To confirm that this is a wild rumor, Coyotes insider Craig Morgan tweeted:
It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Somebody is not telling the truth.
