NL West May Review

The NL West is having one of the best divisional races in a long time as there is a close gap between the San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres. It won’t be decided until the last month or so who is going to win the division but that is what is exciting the fans

Exceeding Expectations

The San Francisco Giants have surprised all MLB fans by leading the tough NL West Division with a record of 42-25, leading by a game ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Some people didn’t expect the Giants to lead the division, but with the pitching of Kevin Gausman, Alex Wood, and co, along with the hitting of Brandon Belt, Brandon Crawford, Wilmer Flores, and Buster Posey, they have been very productive in helping the Giants win games. I think the Giants will have what it takes to make the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

As usual, the Dodgers the reigning World Series Champions, are up in contention with the division, and with the addition of CY Young Winner Trevor Bauer, it will only add towards their dominance. And currently their in second place in the NL West with a record of 41-27. The pitching has been stellar with Bauer pitching incredibly, Kershaw on form Urias and Buehler consistent, but their batting has been what’s keeping them alive with Betts, Bellinger, Muncy, Lux, Turner, Taylor, and Smith all hitting homers and producing runs. It is certain that the Dodgers will make the playoffs again and will definitely feature in the World Series.

Another team that is in contention is the San Diego Padres who are currently third in the NL West with a record of 39-32 led by their key offseason additions of former Cy Young Winner Blake Snell, Yu Darvish, Dineson Lamet pitching really well, but not only is there pitching really good there hitting is really well with Star Player Fernando Tatis Jr leading the way with the home runs, Manny Machado also has been producing ever since signing that massive deal in 2019 as is Eric Hosmer who looks like he finally has adjusted in San Diego. The Padres made the playoffs for the first time since 2006 last season and with these key additions, it looks like their will be a new powerhouse in California. there is no doubt that the Padres will be in contention for the division or even a wild card spot

A team that will be looking to rebuild is the Arizona Diamondbacks who haven’t made the playoffs since 2017 and have lost a ton of star players due to free agency and trades including All-Star first baseman Paul Goldschmidt who plays now for the St.Louis Cardinals. Led by the aging David Peralta, Eduardo Escobar, Asdrubal Cabrera all hitting for them but it isn’t enough for the struggling Diamondbacks. The pitching hasn’t helped at all as their record is standing at 20-50 which is the worst in the MLB and at this state will land them the number one overall draft pick. They will be looking to rebuild for the future as their is no chance of them making the playoffs any time soon.
