Notre Dame is looking at a tough schedule this season that could ruin their chances at the College Football Playoffs. With losing Ian Book to the NFL draft and many other key players, their chances of going undefeated have gone down. Notre Dame needs the new starters to step up and fill some big shoes. Notre Dame has five must-win games if they want to be talked about when it comes time for College Football Playoffs.

Week 1 at Florida State

This game will show what the Irish have in store this season. It will also be the first game we would get to see the new starting quarterback Jack Coan, a transfer from Wisconsin, play in the blue and gold. This game will set the tone for the rest of the season and show that Notre Dame is not a team to take lightly. Notre Dame must dominate this game because this may be the easiest game of the 5.

Week 4 Against #14 Wisconsin

The game will be played at Soldier Field against their first ranked opponent of the season. This will be one of the hardest games for Notre Dame this year, playing a team that had a top-ten defense in 2020 and only allowed 17.4 per game. Wisconsin’s defense is great, but their offense does not have the same greatness, which will be the key point for Notre Dame to capitalize on.

Week 5 Against #8 Cincinnati

This game will be the toughest mentally after coming off the Wisconsin game. Cincinnati will have to beat Notre Dame to even have to be looked at for the College Football Playoffs. Cincinnati have lost their defensive coordinator to the Irish which is something that could be the key point to winning for both teams. The Irish defense must control the game early and not take their foot off the gas.

Week 8 Against #15 USC

Luckily enough for the Irish, this game will come after a bye week. Notre Dame vs. USC is one of the biggest rivalries in college football. They did not play last year because of Covid but will have a chance again this year. USC won at Notre Dame in 2019 but Notre Dame does lead the series 47 to 36.

Week 9 Against #10 North Carolina

this is the last must-win game for them. This is a game that will truly challenge the Irish. They are not going to be the same team that they beat last season. It will especially be difficult after coming off a huge rivalry game the prior week. The Irish must play an all-around great game because we all know North Carolina is hungry for this win.

The Blue and Gold have a tough season but it seems like they used some of that Irish luck and get to play most of the games at home. The one bad thing is that the games seemingly are one after another. If they can win all 5 of this game, then you would be seeing them during the College Football Playoffs.
