Novak Djokovic ranking

Novak Djokovic is into his 11th Australian Open semifinal, and no matter what happens the rest of the tournament, he will leave Australia with the world number-one ranking.

Entering the first Grand Slam of the year, Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, and Daniil Medvedev all had a chance of leaving the tournament with the top spot in the rankings. By making a deep run, Djokovic eliminated Medvedev from the race, even though the current world number three is still in the tournament. Alcaraz was the only one left who could overtake Djokovic, but that no longer became possible after Alcaraz’s four-set loss to Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals.

Djokovic currently sits at 9,855 points, according to the Pepperstone ATP Live Rankings. Alcaraz is second with 9,255 points, while Medvedev rounds out the top three with 8,265 points.

Novak Djokovic already holds the record for most weeks with the number one ATP ranking with over 400 weeks. He is almost 100 weeks ahead of Roger Federer, who held the top spot for 310 weeks.

Although staying at world number one was certainly a goal for Djokovic, he has his eyes set on a record-extending 11th Australian Open title. He is two wins away from accomplishing the feat and will take on Italian Jannik Sinner in the semifinals. Sinner defeated Djokovic twice at the end of last year and is looking for his first Grand Slam title. Meanwhile, Djokovic looks to add a 25th Grand Slam to his collection, which would be the most in tennis history.

In the other semifinal, Medvedev will take on Zverev. Medvedev can still reach world number two and surpass Alcaraz if he wins the title. There is also the possibility of Medvedev dropping to number four. That would happen with a loss to Zverev and Sinner winning the tournament. Zverev will climb to fifth in the rankings if he defeats Medvedev.
