This upcoming Spring the Ohio State football team is set for a one-of-a-kind quarterbacks competition. Former two-year starter CJ Stroud has decided to enter the NFL draft. That move will undoubtedly leave a hole at the most critical position on the football field. With the upcoming competition, the Ohio State quarterbacks will have a massive hole to fill.

The entire Ohio State football team is in a critical position. Having lost to Michigan twice in two years, they have no time to waste in finding a starter. In other words, this upcoming season may define the Ryan Day era as a head coach.

Second Ryan Day QB Competition

The Ohio State football team will be heading into its second formal quarterbacks’ competition under head coach Day. Like stated before Stroud, the former starter is headed to the NFL and this team needs answers at quarterback. The two men left behind are Kyle McCord and Devin Brown. Much like head coach Day this will be McCords second Ohio State quarterbacks competition. He previously lost to Stroud in 2021 to become the starting quarterback.

Therefore, he spent the previous two seasons as the backup quarterback. As well Brown served as the third quarterback on the roster during his freshman season.

More Of A Normal Competition?

According to head coach Day, this quarterbacks competition will be a little more normal than the previous competition. McCord has experience playing quarterback at this level and as well as one start under his belt. He has the experience to go along with 58 passing attempts. McCord is considered the favorite/ front runner to the starting job as he is the older player. However, Brown is more than talented enough to push the veteran McCord for the job. If not even win the starting job.

Head coach Day believes the Ohio State quarterbacks competition will be an interesting one.

“It’s going to be a heck of a competition,” Day said. “I’m really looking forward to seeing it. They both have a little bit of a different skill set. It’s gonna be fun to watch them compete this spring.”

Conclusion

For this upcoming spring one of Ohio, State’s quarterbacks must be able to step in and fill the shoes that Stroud has left behind. This upcoming season will be a critical one and therefore, everyone around the quarterback must step up. Losing to Michigan a third time may be the final nail in the coffin for the head coach if he cannot get it done.

A program like the one Ohio State has looked to be competing for national championships season in and season out. For instance, competing for said national championship means beating rival Michigan. In addition, finding the right starter for this team will have resounding effects for seasons to come.
