There are a lot of connections between the University of Miami and Mario Cristobal. Not only did he play for the Hurricanes from 1988 to 1992 but he was also a Graduate Assistant Coach from 1998 – 2000.
While Mario Cristobal and the Oregon Ducks are getting ready for the Pac-12 championship game. The Alma Mater of the Ducks head coach is prepared to make a run at him being their next head coach.
Benefits of Cristobal leaving?
While there are a few benefits that can’t be left out, the benefits would be limited. These benefits would include: being closer to his mom and coaching for his Alma Mater.
The Ducks head coach flew to Miami after the game last weekend to see his mom, who is sick and not doing well. Cristobal arrived back in Eugene after the brief visit and said: “She’s fighting. That’s the best way to say it, and that’s exactly what I expected to see out of her. We’re going to go day-by-day.”
Why would he stay at Oregon?
The benefits of staying at Oregon are pretty much limitless, as he is on the verge of building a Pac-12 Dynasty and he has no reason to abandon what he’s built in four seasons with Oregon. His family appears to love the Oregon community, and the Ducks have climbed into the College Football Playoff consideration. They were as high as the third seed this season before falling to the Utah Utes who the Ducks will see tonight for the Pac 12 Championship.
“He’s a hell of a coach, one of the best coaches I’ve had. As a recruiter, he’s even better. You see that with the talent we get at Oregon,” Holland told Jackson.
The new contract offer is reportedly in line with that of Lincoln Riley and Brian Kelly. Though right now he is only making $4.3 million on a contract that was just extended before the 2021 campaign.
According to John Canzano‘s source the new deal is “It’s aggressive and in line with what we’ve seen this week.”
