The fallout of the Pac-12 continues after they decided to part ways with Commissioner George Kliavkoff, who will serve his last day on Feb. 29. With more details expected to come next week.

As of now, the future of the Pac-12 is unknown. It’s been that way all season and even before the season. Every team except for Washington State and Oregon State has decided to leave the Pac-12. Oregon, USC, UCLA and Washington are all set to join the BIG 10, while Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado and Utah are joining the Big 12. Cal and Stanford are expected to join the ACC. So the conference has decided that they want to just clean house and start fresh. The new commissioner will have a lot to do.

The “Pac-2” has agreed to play mostly a Mountain West schedule with some bigger teams like Oregon and Washington on the schedule as well. They have until the fall of 2026 to reach the eight-school minimum to be recognized as a conference. Both schools in the conference are still weighing their options.

The statement from the Pac-12 said that the two sides “mutually agreed to part ways.” As of now, the expectation is that the Deputy Commissioner Teresa Gould is expected to take over. At least, according to Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger.

George Kliavkoff took over as the Pac-12 Commissioner in 2021 after working in various roles elsewhere. Last August, he presented the board with a subscription-based streaming deal through Apple TV to replace the TV deal that expires at the end of this school year. The presented deal was declined by the board of presidents and chancellors and not too long after a lot of the schools listed above left for other conferences.
