After spraining his right knee on March 21, Paul George is likely to miss the entire opening round of the NBA Playoffs. That is according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The All-Star forward has been progressing in his rehab but it’s likely not enough for him to return. The Los Angeles Clippers have been preparing to play without him.
The LA Clippers face a tough team to beat…an undefeated 8-0 team with Kevin Durant in the lineup.
George made his eighth All-Star appearance this season and has averaged 23.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.5 steals in 34 minutes a game. The Clippers will have to rely even more heavily on star Kawhi Leonard, who has been one of the league’s most productive players in the final few months of the season.
“I’ve been feeling better … been working my butt off, grinding literally every day,” George said recently on his “Podcast P with Paul George” podcast. “Six days out of the week I’m training, doing rehab. I’m going to give it every chance I got, man. It’s coming down to the wire.”
If George can make it back in time, it should make it easier for the Clippers, but then again going up against the Phoenix Suns with Durant is no easy task. They look to be a legitimate contender. However, if the Clippers sneak by perhaps George will be able to return later in the playoffs, but that’s a big if.
