Paul Rabil, the GOAT of professional lacrosse has officially announced his playing career is over. Rabil had been playing in the league he helped create for the past three years. He will be retiring from competitive play and focusing on running the PLL and trying to make the league one of the best in sports.
Rabil retires as a two time national champion with John Hopkins and as a two time Major League lacrosse champion. Additionally, he is a two time MVP in MLL, two time world lacrosse champion, and a champion of the National Lacrosse League. But on top of all that, he is the all time points leader in the history of pro lacrosse. Rabil played professionally for 14 years as a midfielder splitting time with the Boston Cannons, New York Lizards, San Jose Stealth, Washington Stealth, Philadelphia Wings, Atlas Lacrosse Club, and Cannons Lacrosse Club.
His Legacy
Paul Rabil created the PLL with his brother because he wanted to provide a better option for professional lacrosse players. The college game as well as Major League Lacrosse featured a slower game. He vowed to change that and create something better, and he did. The PLL has helped skyrocket the popularity of the sport. Lacrosse has become the fastest growing sport in North America.
The PLL quickly surpassed its counterparts and as a result, Major League Lacrosse had to merge with them. A faster game with more scoring and highlight reel goals has captivated fans of all ages across the country and beyond. His accomplishments on the field were great and he was a phenomenal player. However, the bigger picture is what he has done and will continue to do for the game. Inspiring the next generation is greater than any on field performance.
