PJ Washington Signing Three-Year Extension With Charlotte

Restricted Free Agent PJ Washington has agreed to a new three-year deal, that will keep him with the Hornets. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski was the first to report the news…

Washington has proven to be an integral part of the Hornets’ young core. The 25-year-old was the league’s final unsigned restricted free agent.

Washington averaged career-highs in points (15.7) and three-pointers (2.0) per game last season. He was the first Hornets player in history to average two three-pointers and a block in the 2022-2023 season. PJ Washington was drafted No. 12 overall by the Hornets in 2019.

The situation has cast a shadow on an offseason that has already seen the Hornets draft Brandon Miller, as well as controversially bring back Miles Bridges, who will miss 10 games after the NBA suspended him for 30 after his domestic violence allegations. The result though, will feature a strong frontcourt for Charlotte.

Washington will now help lead a front court alongside Bridges and Miller. The Hornets backcourt has LaMelo Ball, who just got a five-year max extension earlier this offseason. The Hornets haven’t made the playoffs since 2015 and are now entering their first season under new ownership after Michael Jordan sold his stake in the franchise.

Washington is a key piece of the Hornets future after he’s averaged at least 10.3 points every season that he has played in the NBA. Charlotte will be entering their second season with Steve Clifford as head coach.
