The Portland Trail Blazers are bringing Kevin Knox back. The Blazers acquired the 23-year-old through trading Gary Payton II to the Golden State Warriors. The Athletic’s Shams Charania was the first to report the news:
Throughout his career, Knox is averaging 7.5 points and 2.9 rebounds in 275 NBA games, shooting 38.5% from the field and 34.2% from the three-point arc.
The specifics of the deal have not yet been released, but last year Knox II made $3 million. The Trail Blazers appear to be heading into a rebuild. With Lillard on his way out, the Trail Blazers should bring in as many young players as possible. Now having a G-League organization makes that a lot easier. The Blazers can develop more young athletes including Kevin Knox who has not been able to solidify himself as a rotation player.
The start of training camp is three weeks away and most teams are close to having complete rosters. Knox was a lottery selection in 2018, going to the Knicks with the eighth pick in the draft. He spent more than three seasons in New York, but was never able to establish himself as a rotation player and was traded to the Hawks in 2022.
Every team has to have a minimum of 21 players during offseason training camps.
