The outcome was not what the doctor ordered on Friday night for the R.A. Long Lumberjacks. Nothing would go as they wanted, but for the Woodland Beavers everything was going right.
As the Jacks started off with the ball, they hoped to get off to a better start than they did against Columbia River. The first drive didn’t go as planned as Jaxson Rivenes was intercepted, which led to an Elijah Andersen touchdown for the Beavers offense.
The score stayed 7-0 throughout the first quarter, but Woodland took control in the second quarter.
Andersen rushed for three touchdowns and threw for one as the Beavers took a 40-0 lead into the halftime break.
Offensively, the problem for the Jacks was their turnovers. Rivenes had thrown three interceptions against Woodland; he only had one coming into the game. The Jacks weren’t able to move the ball on the ground or through the air.
“We’ve got to back to eliminating turnovers,” Barker explained. “We’ve got to have better execution up front. It’ll be a physical battle in the trenches against Washougal.”
The Washougal team that the Lumberjacks will face next week is a different Washougal Panthers than they’re used to. The Panthers don’t have Holden Bea anymore, so their offensive game plan is more focused on running the rock.
When you take a look at the points for vs. the points against, Washougal scores an average of 17 points per game while only giving up an average of 11.8.
“Offensively, we need to focus on getting Tra, Reagins and our other athletes open for some big plays. We’ve just got to make better decisions.”
Against a good Woodland team, R.A. Long was only able to muster 80 yards offensively.
