This Saturday we get to see Notre Dame play against Purdue for the first time since 2014. Notre Dame does lead the series 56 to 26 and they won the last meeting. Purdue is unranked and Notre Dame is ranked 12th but they both are 2 and 0. It is great to see the rivalry be back after so many years gone.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Many ups and down for Notre Dame this season and going into this game, things need to be fixed. They have had two close games against Florida State and Toledo and being in Purdue might make for another close game. Notre Dame had a good game against Florida State. Jack Coan had 366 passing yards and 4 touchdowns. Their rushing game was not that great during the game though which made the game a lot closer. They had a lucky win against Toledo by winning with a last-second touchdown. Notre Dame’s offense played well but because of the 4 turnovers, the game was a lot closer than it should have been.
Notre Dame is going to have a hard week of practice after the week 2 game. Many different things held Notre Dame down the past two games. They need to have the gas pedal down the whole game on defense because they seem to go into prevent defense too early. Notre Dame also needs to be able to get to the quarterback more and pressure him into throwing bad passes. Their offense needs to get back into the rushing game. The last few weeks they have not had great rushing games. They need to be able to get more out of their running backs. The big thing they need to fix is the turnovers. If they get all of this done, this game will be easy for them.
Purdue Boilermaker
Purdue is coming into this game after winning a convincing game against UConn 49 to 0. They are looking good in the first two games. Jack Plummer has 6 touchdowns through 2 games and had 4 touchdowns in the game against UConn. The defense was great in both games. The defense was great against the rush in the game against Oregon State, but their passing defense was not that great. Purdue’s defense was great against UConn and only allowed 223 total yards and only 99 passing yards. Purdue looked great in both games to start this week.
The Boilermakers are looking to have a great start to the season and going 3 and 0 will push them into the top 25. The Purdue offense needs to continue to be as good as they have been at the beginning of the season. They also need their defense to be able to stop the run because if they can continue to stop the rush then they will be able to slow down Notre Dame. Purdue has all the chances to upset Notre Dame but will need to play as great as they have the first two games.
Notre Dame has a lot to show this week because of their poor performances in the first two games and the drop in rank. Purdue can upset Notre Dame and show that they should be talked about more.
My prediction: Notre Dame wins 35 to 24.
