The Las Vegas Raiders have informed Derek Carr that he has been released by the team. Adam Schefter was the first to report the news:
As of yesterday, Carr had informed the Raiders organization that he would not waive his no-trade clause. Which ultimately led to the release of Carr on Tuesday.
Carr’s Raiders Tenure
Derek Carr didn’t play in the final two games this season as a healthy scratch, and the team is expected to move on after a disappointing 6-11 finish. Carr has spent his entire nine-year career with the franchise. In those nine seasons, Carr has played for six different head coaches: Dennis Allen, Tony Sparano, Jack Del Rio, Jon Gruden, Rich Bisaccia and Josh McDaniels. He also had five different offensive playcallers — Greg Olson, Bill Musgrave, Todd Downing, Gruden, Olson again and Josh McDaniels.
During his time as the Raiders signal caller, Derek Carr has gone 63-79. He led two teams to the NFL postseason.
Carr threw for 3,522 yards and 24 touchdowns with 14 interceptions in 15 games for the Raiders this past season. He threw for a career-high 4,804 yards in 2021 while leading the Raiders to a 10-7 finish, which is just one of three winning records he’s had there.
As of now, its unclear of how many teams will be interested in Carr. However, he did visit with the New Orleans Saint last week. The Carolina Panthers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Jets are all in need of a quarterback. At 31, Carr may still have a few good years. Due to his release, Carr can immediately sign with a team rather than having to wait until the beggining of free agency on March 15.
