Former Baltimore Ravens lose cornerback depth as Tavon Young and Anthony Averett have both inked contracts with new teams.
Tavon Young
Baltimore released Young back in March to clear up $5.8 million in cap space. He is signing a one-year “prove-it” deal with the Chicago Bears. Since signing an extension with the Ravens back in 2019, he only appeared in 19 games, despite playing all of last season. Prior to his injuries, he showed lots of promise, and he played well enough last season for the Bears to take a chance on him.
Anthony Averett
Averett got thrown into the starting role once Marcus Peters got injured before the season began. He struggled at times, getting picked on by opposing offenses. However, overall, he played very well and made plenty of huge plays throughout the season. In his first full season as a starter, he allowed 768 yards, three touchdowns, and 56 completions on 101 targets. He also led the team in interceptions with three.
Anthony Averett is headed to the Oakland Raiders on a one-year $4.5 million contract. This contract is smaller than many expected it to be, but Averett, like Tavon Young, is betting on himself. He is hoping to play his way into an even larger contract next offseason. Outside of Marlon Humphrey and Marcus Peters, the Ravens have Iman Marshall, Kevon Seymour, Robert Jackson, and Kevin Toliver II. The Ravens should be looking to improve their cornerback depth through the NFL draft.

Free-agent running back Melvin Gordon has been engaging in talks with the Ravens. This might come as a surprise to many since the Ravens already have J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards. However, there is a chance both players are injured to begin the season. Baltimore should be looking to add one more quality back to bolster depth, whether through free agency or the draft.
