Nelson Cruz has proven himself to be one of the best power sluggers in the game, and the Tampa Bay Rays believe just that. The Rays are finalizing a deal to acquire the power-hitter from the Minnesota Twins. First reported by Jeff Passan.
This season, the ageless Nelson Cruz continues to have one of the best years of his career. The slugger is hitting .294/.370/.537 with 13 doubles, a triple, and 19 home runs. This is all in his age 41 season. It does not often do you see a Major League Player playing at the caliber that Nelson Cruz is that late into their careers.
The 17-year veteran has 436 career home runs and 1,202 RBI’s in his career. He is a seven-time All-Star. He has also won the Edgar Martinez Designated Hitter Award on two different occasions.
The trade will reunite Mike Zunino and Cruz. The two played together in Seattle. The Rays will be the sixth team that Cruz has played for in his career.
What’s The Deal?
According to a source, the deal is Joe Ryan and Drew Strotman for Cruz and Calvin Faucher (minor league pitcher).
A four-player trade.
Rays get: Cruz and Faucher
Twins get: Joe Ryan and Drew Strotman.
This is breaking news. More details to come.
