Rafael Devers Is Staying In Boston.

Per multiple sources, the Boston Red Sox and Rafael Devers are in agreement on a 11-year, $332M extension. This deal comes to around $30 million AAV and will run through Devers’ age 37 season. This extension comes after losing cornerstone shortstop, Xander Bogaerts, which was a huge blow to this lineup. However, securing Devers to this extension was vital to keeping this lineup powerful.

Rafael Devers is entering his age 26 season and is only improving with age. In 2022, he slashed .295/.358/.521 for an OPS of .879 with 27 home runs and 88 runs batted in. Since 2019, Devers has more extra base hits than anyone in major league baseball. This kind of production was crucial to keep in Boston, and the Red Sox got their guy.

It was rumored earlier this offseason that extending Devers was one of the Red Sox’s ‘top priorities’. The front office also said the same thing about resigning Xander Bogaerts, so not many actually believed that Rafael Devers would stay with the Red Sox. Given that Devers was due to become a free agent after the 2023 season. This is also due to the lack of big contracts handed out by Red Sox ownership in recent years. However, these claims can be put to bed, because the deal is soon to get done.

The Future Is Bright In Boston.

Securing Rafael Devers was very important for the future of the Red Sox. The loss of Xander was huge. But this infield will look potent in the coming years. Triston Casas is looking like he is going to become one of the brightest young stars in baseball going into his rookie season. Trevor Story is looking to bounce back from an injury-riddled season and be a star in the middle infield.

Not only is the infield looking better already, but Marcelo Mayer is one of the top prospects in baseball who many believe will be a huge piece of the future of the Red Sox. And now that Rafael Devers is here to stay, it’s time to get cooking.

This offseason for the Red Sox has been full of ups and downs so far. And it’s still early. There could be more moves coming, most likely in the form of trades. This extension should give a sense of a little more security for Red Sox fans. The front office heard the fans and how important it was to keep Rafael Devers in Boston, now let’s see what else they have planned.
