Malcolm Brogdon Knicks

The New York Knicks are in need of a backup point guard after trading Immanuel Quickley. As the 2024 NBA Trade Deadline approaches Malcolm Brogdon may be one of the most sought-after players, the Knicks are one team interested according to Kris Pursiainen. Brogdon, 31, does not match the Trail Blazers timeline. He could help a playoff-caliber team and the Blazers are not close this season.

Though, the price tag is probably a little higher than they would like. Malcolm Brogdon could be a nice addition to the Knicks roster. They are now missing a scoring threat off the bench. He would provide just that with averages 15.7 points, 5.6 assists, and 3.5 rebounds. With the Blazers this season he’s shot 43.8% from the floor and 41.4% from the three-point arc in 27.9 minutes per game.

When the Blazers acquired Brogdon, the plan was to use him as a vet. At least until the trade deadline when contending teams would come calling. Now that time is here and the Blazers would likely ask for at least one first-round pick return. Over the long haul, any deal would add to what they had got in return for Damian Lillard, but the likelihood of the Blazers giving Brogdon up for nothing is slim.

If the Blazers look to add picks in return for Brogdon or Jerami Grant, then they should opt for 2025 firsts. There are no clear-cut favorites in 2024. Nobody that the Blazers should even target, outside of maybe Bronny James. A trade proposal that would work:

NYK receives: Malcolm Brogdon
POR receives: Evan Fournier, 2025 first-round pick (either via MIL or NYK) and a 2024 second-round pick (via UTA or CLE)

Brogdon is an offensive asset that can play well on or off ball. He’d fit in with all of the guards in New York. He would fill the shot creation gap that was created by the Anunoby trade. Fournier would be thrown into this deal just to help match salaries. It’s likely that if the Blazers acquired him, they would buy him out.
