Rodgers and the Packers absolutely flopped as they were taken down handily by the Jets 27-10. In a bout which started out as a competitive snooze-fest, the Jets came out in the second half with twice as much heart. Using the ground game, they managed to run the ball down Green Bay’s throat. At the same time their defense stifled almost every attempt the Packers had on offense. The Jets showed they are here, and for the first time in a long time, they are competitive. The Packers meanwhile continue to have more questions than answers. And for the first time in a long time, may be just plain bad.
In the first, half there wasn’t a lot for either team to hang their hats on, at least offensively. Quinnen Williams was an absolute monster who led the Jets defense. He managed to create pressure, stuff the run, and even block a field goal in the first half. The Packers special teams had a block of their own, theirs coming on a punt at midfield but failed to capitalize.
It was the Breece Hall show in the second half as the Green Bay defense finally started to crumble. Hall finished with 116 yards on the ground paired with a score. The Jets managed to block a punt of their own as well, with theirs even resulting in a score.
In all facets of the game, Green Bay was clearly outcoached by the time the final second came off the clock. It seems like they have far too many holes in their ship to plug, or in other words they have issues around the entire offense. As a result, they have no identity. As for the Jets, this looks to be a huge step forward for their young team. Quinnen Williams, Breece Hall, and Sauce Gardner all flashed their superstar potential. Zach Wilson wasn’t spectacular but did what he had to do.
What this game could represent is the start of a titan falling, and the birth of a new contender.
