Ronda Rousey the New Smackdown Women’s Champion!

Ronda Rousey is the new Smackdown Women’s Champion, defeating Charlotte Flair in an intense “I quit” match at WrestleMania Backlash. It’s been just over three years since Ronda Rousey was a champion in WWE. When she last held a title, it was the RAW Women’s Championship. She lost it to Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 35.

Charlotte Flair was the previous champion. She held the title for 198 days. The reign was one of the longer title runs of her career. As champion, she became a success in the ratings. She is the only one on Smackdown in the last 200 days that can say that they got higher ratings than Roman Reigns. But Charlotte’s run is over. She is out with what is probably a storyline injury.

But the new champion, Ronda Rousey, looks to set herself on a new path. Her last run with the title left a lot of mixed feelings. Some felt that they were just glad when it was over. Now she has a chance to prove her worth to the wrestling audience.

Ronda Rousey brings a certain feeling of legitimacy to the WWE as champion. She is a former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion. As Champion, she became a media sensation and one of the biggest stars in women’s sports anywhere in the world. Her dominance was ended by a kick to the neck from Holly Holm.

Now, as WWE Smackdown Champion, she faces a wide-open field of challengers. Old feuds like Becky Lynch, and many stars who’ve risen since the last time Ronda Rousey was around. If done right, this writer believes that her run could be a fantastic one. Or it could turn into another run where people just wish she would go away. If that happens, any wrestling fan knows that Charlotte Flair is waiting to take her title back.
