Ryan Grubb

Many had wondered if Ryan Grubb would become the new head coach at Washington or if he would follow Kalen DeBoer to Alabama. It seems that he has chosen the latter, according to ESPN’s Chris Low.

Grubb had removed himself from the conversation as DeBoer’s successor at Washington on Saturday. He posted a letter that was addressed to the Husky Nation on X.

“Possible not probable… The vision coming to Seattle was clear. What wasn’t was how this family would come closer together and have the experience of a lifetime…Nothing will change that…This is all love. Though I wanted to be I will not be the next head coach at the University of Washington. It would have been a dream to stay here and fight to maintain the standard that had been reestablished.”

He went on to thank many people at the Univerity of Washington. Ryan Grubb will likely take on the same role at Alabama, orchestrating what some could assume would be another high-powered offense. Grubb is a DeBoer guy, he’s been following him as a coach in some capacity since their early days at Sioux Falls. He had been the offensive line and run game coordinator from 2007-2009 and the Offensive Coordinator/Quarterback Coach from 2010-2013.

From there, he had moved with DeBoer to Eastern Michigan, Fresno State, Washington and now Alabama. Michael Penix Jr had become one of the best quarterbacks in all of college football in Grubb’s offensive system. There’s a likelihood that the coach pairing could get that same sort of production from Jalen Milroe.

Along with Grubb, it’s expected Washington receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard, director of scouting Jerret McElwain and Huskies general manager Courtney Morgan are following DeBoer to Alabama. He had been interviewed to be the Offensive Coordinator a season ago under Nick Saban but ultimately chose to stay at UW.
