Stephen Curry has been dominant through the first four nine games of the season, averaging 30.0 points per contest. However, depite being fourth in the NBA, Steph Curry doesn’t have his eyes set on the 2023-24 scoring title.
The Warriors guard has bigger plans this season.
“That materializes throughout the season,” Curry told reporters after Warriors’ 108-105 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday night. “It’s not a goal. It’s not something that I’m obsessing over. You play the game and you take the shots that you think you’re supposed to take and make. You know, shoot at a high clip and efficiency and all that.”
A teams overall success leads to personal accolades. The Warriors players know that from experience. Though, Steph Curry said he would track the scoring title race as the year goes on. Only if, he’s still among the leaders.
“When I won it the two years before, I was just playing basketball,” Curry explained to reporters. “That was the result. At the end of the year, you start looking at it a little more if you’re in the chase. But it’s not a goal at all.”
Curry, 30, won his first scoring title during the 2015-16 season, scoring 30.1 points per game. He had become the first player to accomplish that feat while shooting 50 percent from the field, 40 percent from three and 90 percent at the charity stripe. He was also named the unanimous MVP that season. The second scoring title would come during the 2020-21 season, where Curry averaged 32 points. The Warriors’ season ended in the Play-In Tournament that year.
So while Curry is in the NBA’s top five points per game, trailing only Joel Embiid, Donovan Mitchell and Luka Doncic… he’s not focused on winning the award.
