Sean Payton might be coming out of retirement, and in the event that he does, he is putting together an all-star coaching staff.

The former saints head coach retired last season, but many teams have been eyeing him. It appears that he will be in high-demand amongst the coaching circuit this offseason. Though, whoever wins out and hires Payton will owe the Saints “one or multiple picks” due to the Saints still owning his rights.

Rumors have it that one team is interested in paying him enough to be considered one of the game’s highest-paid coaches. Payton has spent this season analyzing for Fox. Though he has hinted at an interest in returning to the sidelines.

“I think sooner than later,” Payton said on Tom Brady‘s Let’s Go! podcast (h/t Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk). “I really enjoy the current job I have. But I think relative to coaching, though, I know that I want to coach again and it’s not really been a secret. But I wanna find the right spot.”

Two teams interested in the Superbowl-winning quarterback may include the Carolina Panthers and the Indianapolis Colts. Several other teams may have vacancies toward the end of the season. He’ll likely be a top choice for most teams if available after producing a 152-89 regular-season record across 15 years with the Saints. Sean Payton has long been for his offensive production, ranking in the top five in points scored in nine of those seasons.

As of now, Vic Fangio has been reported to join Payton’s staff as the defensive coordinator. Fangio recently spent three seasons as the head coach of the Denver Broncos. Even though, he struggled as a head coach, the Broncos defense ranked third in the NFL. Before that he spent 19 seasons as an NFL defensive coordinator with the Panthers, Indianapolis Colts, Houston Texans, San Francisco 49ers and Chicago Bears. In six of his last eight seasons as a DC, his defenses ranked in the Top-10.

The two coaches combined could lead a quick turnaround.
