How did last season fare

Inter Milan won the 2020-21 Serie A league title ahead of city rivals Milan, Atalanta, and Juventus. Although Inter won by 12 points Grabbing the Europa league spots were Napoli and Lazio. For the first time ever Roma qualified for the Europa Conference league. Although there were highs for some teams this past campaign, the teams that were unfortunately relegated were Benevento, Crotone, and Parma. But with current title holders Inter financial issues it looks like their title campaign and domination maybe short-lived and there may be a new champion on the horizon.

Favorites

Reigning Champions Inter could potentially win the title once again, but a couple of players may not be on the team. Due to the significant impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, many clubs have suffered serious financial losses. And one of the teams is Inter as they in the past have spent a lot on players. Those players were Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku, Achraf Hakimi, and several others. WIth them spending high and the covid pandemic taking their revenue away. As fans weren’t allowed in the stadium, teams had to be careful with their money. Inter look to be set on the charge again this year. Unfortunately, Inter will have to be without Hakimi who they sold for 60 million euros to PSG

Runners-up AC Milan will look to further improve solid campaign after they were leading the league up for a majority of the season. But they qualified for the Champions League for the first time since 2014. Led by 39-year-old Zlatan Ibrahimovic, they will hope that they can add some signings to help strengthen and add more depth towards the team. Notable contributions from Hakan Calhanoglu, Franck Kessie, Theo Hernandez, and co, have shown why they should be considered contenders. Unfortunately, AC Milan suffered a slight collapse in form when they lost the league title to city rivals Inter. And to make matters worse midfielder Calhanoglu has decided to join city rivals. After the club failed to extend his contract. Coach Stefano Pioli will hope he can push the team towards glory.

Disappointments

Juventus had a very underwhelming season as they finished third place. Head coach Andrea Pirlo knew his expectations were high. But having failed to win the league, Coppa Italia and crashing out of the champions league. This led to Pirlo getting fired and replaced by Massimiliano Allegri. Who returns for a second stint. With star players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Federico Chiesa, Leonardo Bonucci, and Giorgio Chiellini. With quality players like that, it was very unexpected for them to finish third.

Napoli and Lazio will hope that they can qualify for Europe. Both teams qualified for the Europa League last season, but both endured difficult campaigns with expectations that they both would qualify for the champions league. Star Italian players Ciro Immobile, Lorenzo Insigne, Fabian all important players for those retrospective teams.

Relegation Candidates

Newly Promoted teams Venezia, Spezia and Salernitana all have big jobs to do this year. Although fans are ecstatic with the promotion, the promoted teams they will need to go into the transfer market to bulk up their squad. Although they can do all they want with the transfer market, they are expected to g straight back down. Furthermore, they might not even be able to splash the cash with the ongoing covid pandemic. Finances may be limited.
