Shohei Ohtani has already proven himself as the best baseball player in the world over the past two years. He debuted in 2018 but didn’t reach his full potential as a two-way player until 2021. He later took home the MVP award and a silver slugger that same season. In 2022, Ohtani was an even better player than before, but came in second in MVP voting to Aaron Judge. But in 2023, we are seeing Shohei Ohtani play even better than his previous two seasons, which was hard to believe was even possible.

Currently in 2023, Shohei Ohtani is batting .299/.383/.616 with an MLB leading .999 OPS. He also leads all of the American League in home runs with 22. On the mound, Shohei is also dominating at an elite level. As a pitcher in 2023, Ohtani is carrying a 3.29 ERA with a 1.05 WHIP over 82 innings pitched. He is currently in second in the AL in strikeouts with 105 and leads the league in BAA with .178.

Compared to his previous two monster seasons, Ohtani is on pace to smash his personal season records. If he is able to maintain this level of production over the remainder of the season, he is surely going to bring home another MVP trophy going into free agency. He is already projected to secure a contract north of $500M. If he wins another MVP trophy this season, the question will become just how much more than $500M he will sign for.
