Cody Rhodes was a key factor in the creation of All Elite Wrestling (AEW), alongside Tony Khan and the Young Bucks. Rhodes was unable to come to the terms of his new contract, which ultimately led to his departure from the company. This move sent shock waves through the world of professional wrestling, likes of which we have never seen before. Rhodes made his triumphant return to the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) at WrestleMania in April of 2022, by defeating Seth Rollins in a classic matchup. Unfortunately, only a few months later he suffered a gruesome pectoral injury that has sidelined him throughout this entire year. The story of Cody Rhodes coming back after a major setback and winning the Royal Rumble would be one for the ages, but that doesn’t mean it’s the correct one.
Rhodes being sidelined for a majority of the year has definitely given more opportunities to other superstars, which is ultimately the reason why he doesn’t deserve this moment just yet. The return needs to be structured and given enough time for the crowd to fully get behind Rhodes on his World Championship journey, instead of being thrown right into the fire after his injury. The current Undisputed Champion Roman Reigns, has run rough shot through the entire WWE with zero signs of stopping anytime soon. The rivalry and history between these two forces could be one of the biggest storylines in the history of the WWE if booked correctly.
What Should The WWE Do?
The Royal Rumble is the start of WrestleMania season, which is why the WWE definitely needs to bring in Cody Rhodes if he’s fully cleared for in-ring competition. The ovation and crowd support will be in full effect and immediately push Rhodes back into the main event scene on Monday Night RAW. This will also catapult the career of the superstar who eventually eliminates Rhodes and potentially starts a feud with him going into WrestleMania. The WWE has so many options this year for the Rumble winner, but the execution will be very crucial going into these next few months as we get closer and closer to one of the biggest shows of the year.
