Each year Major League Baseball gives out an MVP award for both the American League and National League. This award recognizes a players “game changing” performance. Last year Shohei Ohtani won the American League MVP award unanimously. He received all of the 1st place votes joining 10 other people in the AL for this honor. Including one of his teammates Mike Trout that won unanimously in 2014.
2022 AL MVP Leaders
This year the AL MVP front runners are the Los Angles Angels Shohei Ohtani and the New York Yankees Aaron Judge. Aaron Judge has been having a record breaking season. Right now, he leads the entire MLB in home runs, RBIs and OPS. Judge has 51 home runs, 113 RBIs and an OPS of 1.059. The New York Yankees lead the American League East with a record of 79-51.
Los Angles Angels MVP front runner Shohei Ohtani leads the Angels in all the offensive categories, wins and strikeouts. Ohtani as a batter only has 30 home runs, 82 RBIs and an OPS of .886. Ohtani while pitching has a record of 11-8, an ERA of 2.67 with 176 strikeouts. While he leads his team, the Los Angles Angels are in 4th in the American League East with a record of 57-75.
Who Will Win AL MVP
While Aaron Judge and the New York Yankees lead Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angles Angels in stats this season, I believe the AL MVP award should go to Ohtani. Shohei is doing things in the game that only one of person in history did. Being both a hitter and a pitcher is something you don’t see much in this league. Babe Ruth was the only other player in MLB history to do both and be dominant. Ohtani brings a lot of value to the Angels. Meaning, earlier this season the Angels only wins came on the days Ohtani was pitching. During these games, he would end any losing streak the Angels had at the time. He showed up on the mound and on the plate when his teammates did not. Also, recently he became the only player in MLB history to record 30 home runs and 10 wins as a pitcher. Ohtani is a player that can add value to any team he is on. What we are seeing from him is something you can only dream of watching. Although, Aaron Judge is having a great and a memorable season the MVP award should go to Shohei Ohtani.
