With the addition of superstar Paul George, the Philadelphia 76ers were focused on retaining their free agents while signing the top talents on the market. Although the 76ers improved in several areas, the acquisition of veteran shooting guard Eric Gordon was among the best of the offseason.
Gordon, a 16-year veteran, has played countless roles throughout his career. He has thrived as a starter, won Sixth Man of the Year, and contributed towards playoff-contending rosters in various stints for teams like the Clippers and Rockets. Gordon’s experiences also allow him to develop young stars entering the NBA.
Other teams around the league offered Gordon a more lucrative deal, but the former first-round pick chose to sign with Philadelphia on a veteran-minimum contract. He is reunited with George, hoping to make a push for the NBA Finals.
Eric Gordon will compete for Sixth Man of the Year on the Philadelphia 76ers.
Despite being 35 years old, Eric Gordon is in the best shape of his career for the 76ers. He can shoot from well beyond the arc while striking as a force on defense. Gordon is one of the few players that can be added to any championship contender and instantly improve their odds of winning it all.
Last season for the Phoenix Suns, Gordon averaged 11.0 points and 2.0 assists in 27.8 minutes off the bench. Simultaneously, he shot 37.8% from three on nearly six attempts per game. In the playoffs, the Suns increased Gordon’s minutes and he eclipsed the 40% mark from long distances.
Aside from shooting the lights out, Philadelphia will be counting on Gordon to work with 16th overall pick, Jared McCain. They are similar in size, strength, and skillset, making Gordon the perfect man to guide the rising star to success.
As former coaches and teammates speak highly of Gordon, the 76ers made one of the offseason’s best signings. He is the prototypical role player on a championship-contending roster, and head coach Nick Nurse will utilize him in different schemes to win games effortlessly. Additionally, Gordon will finish as one of the top Sixth Man of the Year finalists.
