Simone Biles Out Of Team Competition

Simone Biles withdrew from the team competition as what is being deemed an injury by USA Gymnastics. The organization released the following statement,

“Simone has withdrawn from the team final competition due to a medical issue, She will be assessed daily to determine medical clearance for future competitions.”

At first, we did not have much information about Biles that was made public. But, we do have a backstory of how the withdrawal took place. According to Barry Svrluga of the Washington Post, he tweeted that Biles did not complete her entire vault. However, after the first vault, Svrluga says that she went with the team doctor. But, she does comes out of the medical room and does not attempt the bars, according to Svrluga. 

However, in the coming hours, we now have a better view of what happened. Biles spoke to NBC’s Hoda Kotb after the event, 

“Physically, I feel good, I’m in shape. Emotionally, that kind of varies on the time and moment. Coming here to the Olympics and being the head star isn’t an easy feat, so we’re just trying to take it one day at a time and we’ll see.”

Also, in the same interview Biles told Kotb about her status for Thursday’s all-around,

“We’re going to take it day by day, and we’re just gonna see,”

Impact of Simone Biles Withdrawal

Now with the news being out about why she withdrew from this morning’s event. The biggest question is she will compete in the remainder of the games. So, with the timing of the gymnastics events, the question is will she compete in the individual all-around event on Thursday. As of now, that will be the biggest question for the next 48 hours. But for Team USA, there is one advantage to the program beyond the all-around the remaining individual events are next week.
