NLDS Game 1 Highlights
The Dodgers dominated early by scoring two in the first inning. Trea Turner hit 419 foot home run and Muncy hit a single to score Smith. The Dodgers struck again in the third with two doubles making the score 4-0 before Mike Clevinger loaded the bases and was taken out of the game. They were able to get one more run from a fielding error by Padres first basemen Wil Myers. However, relief pitcher Steven Wilson came in and was able to get out of the inning and the bases-loaded jam.
Julio Urias dominated this game only giving up one hit in the first four innings with six strikeouts. However, had a rough time in the fifth inning. In the top of the fifth Wil Myers got the Padres on the board by hitting a 376-foot home run. The Padres put up two more runs in the fifth making the score 5-3.
Relief pitchers for both teams pitched extremely well tonight. Padres bullpen completely shut down the Dodgers hitters as they retired 14 though eight innings. Alex Vesia came in and struck out three of the four batters he faced. Brusdar Graterol came in to pitch 1/3 of an inning to face Manny Machado. These two have a history from 2020 NLDS. In 2020 NLDS, Machado hit a home run to make the Padres deficit to only 4-2. Later on, Graterol struck out a batter and celebrated which caused yelling from both dugouts.
In today’s game, Graterol won the feud as he was able to get Machado to fly out to left. The Dodgers came out on top and lead the NLDS 1-0.
How Does The Next Game Look?
The rivalry continues tomorrow, the pitching matchup is between Padres Yu Darvish and Dodgers Clayton Kershaw. Darvish was on the Dodgers 2017 team and started game seven which ended with a Dodgers loss. Kershaw has gone 13-12 with 37 appearances in his postseason career. Darvish is 3-5 with eight appearances in the postseason. Yu pitched a dominant seven innings in New York for the NL Wild Card series. The Dodgers are expected to win this series but the Padres could get hot and shock us all. Tomorrow’s game with be one to watch with a great pitching matchup.
